#9 Stories: HardwaySurf Fuerteventura 2024

“This ain’t your average surf camp weekend. The Hardway Camp Fuerteventura expedition was a raw, unfiltered blend of desert vibes, epic waves, and pure surf culture – where 16 strangers became a family, Casa Maccaroni became our headquarters, and every sunset promised another adventure waiting to break.”

Casa Skate

Hidden Paradise

Imagine trading tourist traps for authentic surf experiences: mornings chasing perfect waves at Punta Blanca, with or without success, doesn’t matter. Evenings filled with barbecue, skateboarding, and stories that’ll never make it to the standard travel brochure. This was surfing stripped down to its most genuine form.
Nestled in the heart of Lajares, Casa Maccaroni stood as more than just a house – it was our surf sanctuary. This architectural gem, crafted by the visionary Enrico, seamlessly blended surf culture, artistic expression, and skateboarding vibes with the raw, desert-like essence of Fuerteventura.

The Crew

and the Vibe

From October 28 to November 9, our diverse tribe of 16 adventurers created a melting pot of energy and connection. Some were familiar faces from previous Hardway Camps, others from snowboarding and surfing circles, and a few fresh faces – but all united by an incredible positive spirit.

Surfing the Canarian Waves

our main spots

Fuerteventura offered us a playground of diverse surf spots:
  • Punta Blanca: The go-to spot for beginners and intermediate surfers, with its welcoming reef break
  • Esquinzo: A beautiful beach break providing a different surfing experience
  • Secret Spots: Reserved for our more advanced “wannabie pro” surfers seeking ultimate challenges
Midway through our trip, the ocean blessed us with golden conditions – clean, massive waves that transformed our morning sessions into pure magic. Each sunset was celebrated with a well-earned cold beer, marking another day of surf and camaraderie.

The Legendary Casa Maccaroni

Multi-Cultural Skate-BBQ

Our most memorable evening was an epic international-crew barbecue that embodied the true essence of the Hardway spirit. More than just a meal, this night was a celebration of human connection – a testament to how strangers can transform into a tight-knit family through shared passion and genuine openness.
The evening became a microcosm of what Hardway represents: breaking down barriers, embracing diversity, and creating moments of pure, unfiltered joy. Sizzling steaks and fresh seafood mingled with laughter that echoed through Casa Maccaroni, while skateboards and cameras captured the raw energy of our crew.
Each person brought a piece of their story to the table – literally and figuratively. Some were seasoned surfers, others complete beginners, but in that moment, those differences dissolved. We were united by a collective appreciation for life’s simple yet profound pleasures: good food, stunning landscapes, and the incredible connections that happen when you open yourself to new experiences.
It was a celebration of life – spontaneous, unscripted, and beautifully imperfect. The Hardway spirit isn’t about perfection, but about embracing the journey, supporting each other, and finding joy in the unexpected moments that make travel truly transformative.
Skateboarding, laughter, and an impromptu photo session completed the night – a perfect representation of our crew’s energy and connection.
Fuerteventura isn’t just a destination; it’s an experience that transforms you. For the Hardway Crew, it was two weeks of pure surf love, friendship, and unforgettable memories.
